Try this Instructor Led Technique that starts with a monochromatic foundation - Grisaille technique

In this 3-part, 2 hour per session class, instructor will lead you through steps to develop a landscape painting on canvas panel using a specific technique.

{Not an academic class - Participants will buy some supplies (approx. $35-40. This amount will get Red, Yellow, Blue, White, and Black Amsterdam Acrylic tubes; a pack of brushes; and Liquitex gloss medium.) A canvas panel, mixing pallets, some paint, brushes, and mediums will be supplied.

Learn to make Ukrainian eggs in this 2-hour, beginner-to-intermediate workshop taught by Northern Virginia based Pysanka Artist and Instructor Stephanie Malm, aka Pysanky Steph.

Pysanky (PIH-san-kih) are the vibrant and traditional folk art of Ukrainian style eggs. Pysanky are made with a wax-resist (batik) method. They are written with beeswax by heating the stylus, called a kistka, in a candle flame until the wax melts, and then a design is written on the egg. The egg is fully submerged in dye from lightest color to darkest color, with more wax being applied at each step until finally the last dye bath is the background. The wax is then melted off to reveal your design!

Learn some history and symbolism and take home a Ukrainian style egg that you made yourself!

This workshop will use candles, beeswax, chicken eggs, and permanent dyes. All supplies and tools will be provided.

Bio: Carol has been painting most of her adult life- a span of approximately 40 years. These paintings include landscapes, still life, as well as portraits of adults, children, and animals. She uses a variety of mediums in her work including pastels, charcoal, acrylics, oils, watercolors, and inks. She also teaches once a week in these mediums. However, most of her recent work is in pastels that she sells in shows as well as on a commission basis frequently.

Carol belongs to a number of artists’ group such as the Valley Art Association in City Park, Hagerstown, MD where she is a board member and handles the publicity for the group. She is also a member of the National Portrait Society, Maryland Pastel Society, and the Pastel Society of America.

This is our 19th year doing Art for the Animals. This year all proceeds go to the Humane Society of Washington County. The Tail-End Reception is the last chance to bid on the awesome artwork in the silent auction. All artwork was donated by our wonderful community of artists and then framed by Howard's. The silent auction will end at EXACTLY 7:30pm. After the bidding ends we will announce the winners of Popular Choice and Judge’s Choice and awards will be handed out!

Learn realistic beginners Watercolor in a fun easy way. In this class you will learn basic techniques and methods to successfully create a painting with watercolors. We will cover color mixing and basic design for your painting.

Class Dates: Thursdays, Oct. 2nd - Nov. 6th

Bio: Paul Berryhill has been a watercolorist for 20 years. He started is journey in the arts lead by his aunt who inspired him to paint. He was trained by J. Robert Burnell, a professional artist form Portsmouth Va. He worked with him not only in class but on a one-on-one mentorship. He also did workshops with the British artist Terry Harrison. Paul is a Juried signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society, Board Member of the Shenandoah Arts Council, and member of the Valley Arts Association. His work is also found on Arches-papers.com and his various websites and social media.

Explore the beauty of acrylic paint in a relaxed, fun and informative atmosphere. The class is open to all levels, from aspiring beginners to advanced artists. This is an open studio style class in which each student works on their own creative project with friendly guidance from the instructor. We will warm up our brushes with small projects designed to spark our creativity and learn/review techniques. Expect to work on at least one major painting. Bring your questions and ideas to share.  Be sure to bring copies of photos of what you would like to paint, or work from your imagination!

Acrylic paint spatter is permanent! Please wear old clothes or an apron.
